I got a lovely surprise this morning from Hayley of Curves & Curls when she nominated me for a Liebster Award. I’d never heard of them before, it turns out they are awarded by bloggers to other bloggers who are just starting out, or have a smaller following.
It’s a great way to raise the profile of some of the smaller blogs, and also spread some love. So how could I not join in? So thank you Hayley, for thinking of me, and also for introducing me to the blogs of Kitty Rambles A Lot, Gaily Gumdrops, and Alison M McIntyre. I’m looking forward to reading their blogs!
Anyway, on to the next step.

Here are my questions from Hayley
What is your favourite plus size brand and why?
Actually it’s quite a recent discovery, I’m really quite impressed with Forever 21’s plus size range. It looks like a good range of decently priced and versatile items. I received my first order from them a couple of days ago and I’m impressed by both the price, cut and quality. I’ll be doing a review soon.
Why did you start your blog?
If you actually have a look at my blog it started as a space to rant about issues that affect or anger me. So mostly related to disability, parenting and feminism. Over time I realised I also wanted to discuss other areas of my life, my artwork, fashion, and body confidence. I’d originally planned to start a separate blog for it, but realised that felt too disjointed and I wasn’t comfortable with it, so have recently decided to expand MurderOfGoths to be a general blog for all things that interest me. It’s going to be interesting to see how it progresses.
Have you got any advice for plus size girls wanting to start a blog of their own?
Just do it. Set up a free blog on somewhere like WordPress and just write. Don’t worry too much at first about attracting readers, take your time finding your voice and don’t panic if it’s slow going.
What’s your best confidence boosting tip?
Ooh good question, I struggle a lot with confidence. In a funny way my favourite confidence booster is actually quite simple, and probably quite problematic from a feminist point of view. But red lippy. If I’m feeling rough and need a boost, a bit of red lippy often helps. Even if I’m only staying in and not seeing anyone, I find it helps. God knows what is going on there, but if it works I’ll take it. So I guess it’s find something that makes you feel good, maybe a favourite item, something that’s just for you.
What’s your favourite hobby / way to blow of steam?
Gaming. Without a doubt. I’m currently playing A Wolf Among Us, has just finished playing through the first two Dragon Age games, and will have another game lined up after. I find it incredibly relaxing.
Name a guilty pleasure.
I’m not sure I have any, guilt implies I’m ashamed of them. I tend to not care about that, I guess some of the cheesy 90’s pop would probably be what others considered a guilty pleasure?
What’s your favourite food?
I am well known in my family for absolutely adoring cheesecake. After each pregnancy (I had hyperemesis in both so couldn’t eat much of anything, let alone anything dairy) my husband knew that the one thing I’d want more than anything was cheesecake. Best giving birth presents ever – well, aside from the children obviously.
What is your dream job / career?
Doing my art full time would be great, or running a shop selling art. I enjoyed retail when I did it, it’s something I was quite good at, so wouldn’t mind returning to it. Just need my body to start cooperating and find a job where adaptations can be made.
If your blog could be an ambassador for any brand which one would you choose?
I’d never even thought of something like this. Hard choice really. My favourite clothes that I own are Lady V dresses, so probably them. But at the same time I’m really hoping to blog about cheap clothes, as I know for me dropping £50 on a dress is nice but mostly very silly on a disabled person’s budget. So I guess we’ll go with Forever 21 for their plus size range as they are more in line with my lifestyle – if they decided to create a retro themed range I’d love them forever.
Favourite TV show?
Decisions decisions.. if I could only watch one TV show for the rest of my life I think I’d say The West Wing. Funny, intelligent, thought-provoking and heart wrenching. Ticks all the boxes, and I do think that there are a few episodes of it that should be compulsory viewing for everyone.
Favourite song lyric of all time?
“I am a poser and I don’t care, I like to make people stare” – X-Ray Spex
The Randomness of Twee – For a start, what an excellent blog title, but not surprising, this lady has excellent taste. Definitely someone who I’d love to go shopping with, she’s got a fantastic eye for the playful side of fashion and I love that. Just check out her choice of bag!
A Curvy Cupcake – I was drawn to her blog because of her wonderful idea of letting her gorgeous little boy choose her outfits during a week of birthdays. Love the combinations that have happened, wonderful mixes of colour and pattern.
Fashionlovesphotos – I covet so much of her wardrobe, and she looks amazing in all of it. Plus her hair is just stunning! Just look at this..
