This is my fucking body

On behalf of women everywhere, our bodies belong to us. No one else. It doesn’t matter how much someone else might think they are entitled to do what they like with and to the body of someone else, it’s not their fucking right.

I’d like to say this blog is about one news story, but it’s not. It’s about a whole load. It’s also about off the news and in everyday life for many of us. Just today I have read a whole load of things which all boil down to women not being allowed bodily autonomy.

Let’s start with rudeness shall we?

When I talk about people being rude what do you picture? Me personally? I’m thinking speaking over someone, not saying please and thankyou, queue jumping (yes, I’m British), etc.

What I’m not thinking about is a man trying to insert his penis in to a sex partner without consent.

I’m also not thinking of a woman wanting to have some say in who gets to touch her.

These aren’t examples of people being rude. Not by any fucking stretch. The first is unequivocally rape/sexual assault, the second shouldn’t have been questioned by anyone.

But in the first, the most horrific of behaviour is written off as just rudeness. Poor silly men not understanding that they need consent beforehand. Though I did have a little laugh at the idea of printing the list out for the partner to read, as if a man who thinks sticking his penis into his partner’s anus without warning or consent is going to think better because he’s seen a list! It’s this ridiculous idea that as long as a woman is in a sexual situation then she’s signed her rights to her own body away.

In the second people are actually saying that fans spending $400 gives them the right to touch Avril Lavigne without her consent! Seriously?

So far in our list of reasons why a woman might owe her body to another we have,

  • Being paid money.
  • Having sex consensually at some point.

Surely no one would add anything else to that list?

How about wanting an education?

Or because her partner expects sex?

Or because she has legs?

Us women should know our place, we’ve obviously only got our bodies on loan until someone else wants them.

  1. You got that right girl; I’m a man and I’m man enough to say that. A woman’s body belongs to her and only her. I have two little girls and if some guy tried anything with them that they didn’t want…well lets just say you do want to know what I would do :0.
